The Family Place

Since our founding in 1985, The Family Place has provided comprehensive programs that strengthen children and families in the Upper Valley community of Vermont and New Hampshire. With the help of community members like you, we have had a lasting impact on thousands of children over the years.

Kara and Ryan welcomed their daughter Ellie into their family in 2020. “We were very unfamiliar with anything about parenting,” says Ryan. “Working with The Family Place was a huge help because we didn’t really know what we were navigating at all.”

The caring staff from our early intervention team partnered with Kara and Ryan to help them understand and support Ellie’s development. “She really struggled with communication but after working with a couple of providers here, she's bloomed,” says Kara. “And now she doesn't stop talking.”

What is really special about The Family Place is our focus on strengthening parents and children together. “I have a disability and can’t use my left arm,” shares Kara. “The Family Place helped us secure a car seat that swivels,” which made traveling with a toddler much easier. 

When she was ready, Ellie joined The Family Place 5-STAR early childhood education program, and when he was ready, Ryan joined the Father Figures Playgroup. “I’ve met some other fathers through the group, and some of that networking is not an easy thing for dads,” says Ryan. “It’s a good thing to do together with your child, because it teaches them that as a parent you are willing to put yourself out there too.” 

Now, Kara is helping lead the future of our work. “The Family Advisory Committee is important because it gives a voice to parents who love The Family Place and want to be a part of something bigger.”
